Languages
French
Languages are formally taught in Key Stage 2 only. Throughout children’s schooling, we use opportunities such as festivals, and when answering the register, to celebrate the range of languages in the school and wider world.
Rationale
At Windwhistle Primary School, our focus language taught across Key Stage 2 is French and we are following the Language Angels' scheme which supports the requirements of the National Curriculum.
The Language Angels’ curriculum is built upon the three ‘pillars’ of language learning (phonics, grammar and vocabulary) and supports teachers to create an environment where children can practise skills learned and foster curiosity. With a strong phonics focus and a wide variety of songs, games and activities, learners at Windwhistle will grow their understanding of a new language in an interactive way that embeds learning.
